Description

This course introduces the basic linguistic structure, history and variation of Mandarin Chinese to undergraduate students who already have prior knowledge of Chinese. Linguistic topics include: phonetics, phonology, morphology and etymology, as well as syntax, semantics and pragmatics of modern Chinese. Individual and group projects will complement lectures, readings and discussions.Prerequisite: Placement by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures
