The A.S. degree program in Movement Science prepares students to become professionals who are trained to assess, design, and implement safe and effective fitness programs for a wide variety of populations. The program curriculum includes the study of exercise science, physical education, nutrition, and health. Students will develop a strong foundation in the theory and application of movement science principles as they relate to fitness performance, athletics, nutrition and health behavior.
Students preparing for careers in movement science can help our communities in several ways including:
Preventing obesity, improving longevity and maintaining overall health and wellness
Educating and promoting an active lifestyle for children and adolescents
Educating and promoting an environment that supports physical activity, health and lifetime fitness, especially for a growing senior population
Employing qualified individuals for new entry-level jobs and providing opportunities for career advancement.
The program provides a wide range of academic and career opportunities for graduates. QCC has transfer agreement with York College's B.S. in Movement Science degree program, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Graduates are employed as leaders of fitness and health programs in a variety of private and public settings in which their clients participate in health promotion and fitness-related activities.
