This course is a survey of the history of East Asia, and will examine the social, cultural, political, economic, and diplomatic development of the region, including China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. Topics of discussion will include the impact ofWestern imperialism, strategies of modernization, the rise of nationalism, Asian communist movements, World War II, the Cold War and Post Cold War era.
